Urbom had played 3 seasons in the Swedish Elite League before coming to North America. Playing high-level hockey in Europe
is not the same as playing in North America, of course, so the first season after the Devils drafted him, he opted to play for the
Brandon Wheat Kings of the Western Hockey League, which is as physical a league as they come.
He isn't just known as a physical player, either. He got to show his offensive skills with the Wheat Kings, as well. He was
second on the team among defensemen in scoring. I'm surprised, though, that with how stacked that team was, that he didn't get
more points than the 33 he got.
He could be compared to fellow Swede Henrik Tallinder. In fact, the plan looks to be for Tallinder to groom him, which
wouldn't be a first for him, working with 19-year olds.
While he had a fine camp, once the regular season started, it was like he was shellshocked or something, that the speed of the
NHL game was too much for him, so his ice time was decreased. After the first week, he was sent to Albany. Yeah, best to
work on your game in the AHL then to get taken advantage of in the NHL.
