Thomson was large in part a lower-line player that wasn't afraid to get physical. He also wasn't afraid at times to get involved in
the offense; in his only season in the organization, he did score 20 goals and 43 points for Utica.
Most of his career was spent playing with the Binghamton Whalers, both while he was in the Caps' organization and after he
was traded to become Hartford property finally in 1989. That's the story of his career, really; the most NHL games he would
see in one season would be 45 with the Kings during the 91-92 season.
He would suffer a shoulder injury in 93-94 season after playing 6 games with the Anaheim Ducks that required reconstructive
surgery. The surgery summarily ended his career; he would officially retire in the summer of 95.
He got involved in the RHI team that was based in Anaheim by the end of the century, both as a coach and as an exec.
He also founded a hockey school in Thornhill, Ontario, originally named Energy Performance Hockey and later renamed JT
Powerhouse Hockey School.
