Taormina's first full pro season last year saw him lead the Lowell Devils in assists as he earned his first pro contract during the
season and as Lowell made the playoffs for the first time. So John MacLean knew what kind of skills Taormina had already
entering training camp. In fact, he gave him a long look.
He's not that dissimilar to Andy Greene. He might have a stronger shot than Greene does, but he does have the speed, puck
handling, and passing skills. Both are also about the same size.
He was billed as a dark horse for making the team for 10-11, but he did, and MacLean had shown confidence in what he can
do with the amount of ice time he was getting.
An ankle injury derailed him, though. It was originally thought to be a sprain, but it was discovered to be something that needed
surgery in January. He would miss the rest of the season ultimately.
He was there at the end to make the team under Peter DeBoer, as well. With the need of rightie shots on the backline, plus an
injury that was described as "middle body" (I'm assuming ribs.), it was decided that he would open the season in Albany.
