Shanahan was a battler that would have fit right in with the Montreal Canadiens, but couldn't crack that lineup with the depth that
they had.
So the Rockies bought his services and got in 30 games with them. While it was a longer look, the result was the same: he
couldn't land a permanent job with an NHL team.
As well as with the Boston Bruins, although he did cause an uprising in Boston for wearing the number 7, the first Bruin to wear
it since Phil Esposito was traded to the Rangers... God, were they like that when Ray Bourque joined the team wearing 7?

He would retire in late 1978 after playing 4 games in the WHA.
