Rooney had ended up getting pigeon-holed into a fourth line player. Playing on a team as deep and talented as the Canadiens
were at that time can lead to such circumstances.
The one advantage that he had when the Devils acquired him was that he played for Lou Lamoriello at Providence. But the
season he came in was riddled with injuries to his shoulder, limiting him to only 25 games. He did get in one long enough for me
to watch him live. I don't know why, but the biggest memory I have of Rooney as a Devil was in the first ever game I went to
live, he scored a goal in it.
The following season was spent playing in Utica, where he scored 25 points and racked up 134 PIMs. He would continue to
play in the minors until the 91-92 season, when he last played for the Maine Mariners for a handful of games. That's when he
would retire.
He would return to the Boston are and go to work for Alpha Delta, Inc., a telecommunications and broadband company.
Entry Draft: 1981 Fifth Round Pick (88th overall) by the Montreal Canadiens
