A lot of people were up in arms over Pikkarainen's signing. They were expecting Lou Lamoriello to bring in a top 6 forward,
and he signed a fourth line energy player that used to play in the system in the mid-00s.
Lou has never been about making a big splash in the free agent market, looking for what he perceives to be the right player at
that time. So if you were expecting someone to get an assload of points and hits for the role Pikkarainen's filling, then you not
only wouldn't have liked this signing, your expectations were too high. In his career, he only broke 20 goals once, and that
happened in his last season in Finland in 08-09. He would have been lucky if he got even 10 in likely 50 games played, but you
see where he ended up.
And that was WITH not finishing the season with the Devils.
After finishing the season with the Red Army, he moved on to Timra of the SEL, where he's been ever since.
Entry Draft: 2002 Seventh Round Pick (218th overall) by the New Jersey Devils
