The Rockies was one of four teams that O'Brien played for during the 77-78 season. As you can see above, he started with the
North Stars, and was moved to the Barons to bring Mike Christie in. The Barons would trade him to the Boston Bruins, where
he finished his season and ultimately, his career.
Only one other player has played for 4 different teams in a season: Dave McLlwain did it in 91-92.
He relished in physical play from his defensive position, so the trade between him and Christie was a push in that regard.
He would retire from playing in 1980 after finishing the season in Binghamton of the AHL.
He does have a nephew playing today that plays similar to how he did. That would be Shane O'Brien, who has played with the
Lightning, the Canucks, the Predators, and currently the Avs.
Entry Draft: 1969 Second Round Pick (14th overall) by the Minnesota North Stars
