Merkosky is another one of the many that has had success in the minors. He was a good role player, but was a very solid
offensive contributor.
He had very good years in the AHL with Binghamton (Hartford), Maine (Devils), and Adirondack (Detroit). His best year came
while with Maine, where he earned AHL Second Team honors in 84-85. That year, he scored 38-38-76.
It was enough for the Red Wings to lure him to their AHL powerhouse at the time. He would play the rest of his career (6 more
seasons) in the Detroit system.
After he retired, he stayed with Adirondack as an assistant coach for a season. After being part of the Sudbury Wolves
coaching staff for 4 seasons, he returned to Glens Falls as their head man for 3.
In 1999, he would then join Detroit's scouting staff as one of their pro scouts. That's where he sits today.
