Mark provided some offense and a lot of grit when he was in the lineup. From what I can see, he could have been a top 4
defenseman in the League had he played longer.
So what happened?
He retired during training camp in 1988. He had said that hockey wasn't fun anymore and wanted to return to his farm in
Alberta. He continued playing hockey, though, joining a senior league team when he returned home and played for the Stony
Plain Eagles for 4 years.
He decided to give the pros another try and signed with the Edmonton Oilers. He played mostly in Cape Breton the first season
back, but did get to see a handful of games for Edmonton the next two. He would finish his pro career in the minors, last playing
for the IHL's Utah Grizzlies in 1997.
He would return to the Eagles after retiring as a pro again and played with them until 2000. He also became a coach in the area
after he retired.
Entry Draft: 1983 Sixth Round Pick (105th overall) by the New Jersey Devils
