Coming out of juniors, Lochead was a capable goal scorer, particularly when he was out there on the power play. He had some
okay seasons with the Red Wings, but largely had not lived up to being the first round pick that he was.
Although I did find that injuries early in his Red Wings days were prominent, especially those from a car accident in 1976. It
took a while for him to get his game back. That didn't happen with the Rockies, though. It actually happened in 79-80 while with
the New Haven Nighthawks. He had 46 goals and 89 points then.
It wasn't enough to bring him back to the NHL, though. Instead, he would finish his career in Europe. He largely played in
Germany. He also had a few games in Switzerland and a season in Austria, where he retired in 1987.
He returned to Germany to get into coaching, and had been coaching for various teams there until 2001 with the exception of 2
seasons in Switzerland and 2 seasons coaching the London Knights of the OHL in the early 90s.
He moved to Frankfurt after retiring from coaching and became a player agent.
Entry Draft: 1974 First Round Pick (9th overall) by the Detroit Red Wings
