After he fell short of making the Miracle On Ice team in 1980, Hughes would join the Fort Worth Texans to finish the season.
He proved to be valuable down the stretch and especially in the CHL playoffs, where he scored 13 points in the Texans' 15
games.
He got his first crack with the Rockies the following season. It was split time between the Rockies, the Texans, and the IR, as he
was out for a time with cartilage damage in his knee. I don't see evidence, but I believe that it ultimately lead to his retirement.
Hughes then spent nearly the entire season with the Texans and had his best season as a pro with 32 points. He would retire on
that note.
He moved to Chicago after retirement and went to work with the Chicago Mercantile Exchange, providing financial services.
Eventually, he co-founded Beanpot Financial Services with another Boston area native and teammate on the Miracle team Jack
O'Callahan.
Entry Draft: 1977 Ninth Round Pick (142nd overall) by the Colorado Rockies
