Gustavsson was part of an influx of Scandinavian players that saw games with the Rockies in that last season in Denver. It was
more an experiment than anything, in my view; most of them, like Gustavsson, went back to their home countries at the end of
the season after finishing with the CHL's Forth Worth Texans.
Adjusting to North American hockey, with the style of play and the rink size, was a problem for him like so many others.
I pretty much wrote the same thing here that I wrote on Christer Kellgren's page. They followed the same career path, even
coming from and returning to Vastra Frolunda. He put up decent numbers for Frolunda in his career. Not quite as high as
Kellgren's from what I saw, but Gustavsson was more of a two-way player from what I picked up.
He would retire after the 89-90 season, but attempted a comeback in 1993 with Harryda of the Swedish Third Division. He had
a great year then, but he went back into retirement after that.
