They didn't call Durbano "Mental Case" just as a marketing ploy. He was that aggressive. Hell, he would probably fit in with the
WWE lifestyle. (And that's actually more true than many of you realize.)
While well renowned as a fighter, a common criticism in regards to him is the lack of discipline he sometimes displayed... I
know. "No kidding." No, I just mean he did have a habit of taking stupid penalties... Let me change that up: it was more a lack
of self-control than a lack of discipline. That's gotta be the only way to describe actions like assaulting a policeman at a game,
spearing a Flyers trainer in the mouth for taunting him, and ripping apart Bobby Hull's toupee.
Those 209 penalty minutes he got with the Scouts... couple that with the 161 he got while with the Penguins, and the Devils'
franchise had their first ever player to lead the league in a statistical category.
By the end of the decade, he would retire from hockey. Just as well; he was more a sideshow than a player from the research I
gathered.
His post-hockey life was just as infamous, though. He was imprisoned for 7 years for attempting to import a half a million dollars
worth of cocaine into Canada, was arrested for shoplifting, and was caught running a prostitution ring by an undercover police
officer.
He decided that enough was enough and moved into the Northwest Territories to quiet his life down. While he scaled the
craziness down up there, ultimately, he would pass away from liver cancer. (Years of drinking, sorry to say.)
