Danis' signing is a case of up-close-and-personal scouting, albeit unintentional.

I say that because many on the Devils remember Danis being in net for the Islanders when they shut the Devils out late in the
08-09 season. He played well that game.

Hell, he played well for the Isles in general. Despite being the worst team in the league, he put up decent numbers for them.

Signing a backup goalie wasn't a desperate need, even with the departure of Scott Clemmensen to Florida. It did give them the
option to decide on what to do with Kevin Weekes. It was ultimately decided not to resign him.

Danis would play the waiting game all season, though. (You know what I mean by that.) While he did play well in the few
games he did play in, patience would grow short. That's when he decided to go to the KHL.

After one season there, he signed on with the Edmonton Oilers this past July to play with their AHL affiliate in Oklahoma City,
the Barons.
