Ahern signed on with the California Seals after he finished his 4 years at Bowdoin College. He would stay with the Seals/Barons
franchise until the 77-78 season, when the Rockies picked him up. It turned out to be a good pickup, as he got 18 points down
the stretch, and was one of the few players to get a point for the Rockies in their lone playoff series.
He would never play another NHL game after that, though. He played the rest of his career in the minors, which ended in 1982.
He would return to Boston after retiring. Currently, he is the director of the James Curley Recreation Center.
He was inducted into the Massachusetts Hockey Hall of Fame in 2005.
