Wilson was already a much-traveled coach when he took on the job of the Rockies, having worked in both the
Los Angeles Kings' organization, the Detroit Red Wings' organization, plus 2 teams in the WHA.

So starting fresh was something he was used to, something the Rockies were doing when they arrived from
Kansas City. But the more things change, the more they stay the same, as history would have it with the rest of
the Denver years. Under Wilson's leadership, the Rockies were only slightly better than either of the two
seasons that the Scouts have played.

He would go on to fill the Pittsburgh Penguins' job for 3 years with only marginal success. He last held a
coaching job in 1981 with the AHL's Springfield Indians.

He would pass away at the end of 2011 after a long battle with lung cancer.

He is the uncle of longtime NHL player and coach Ron Wilson.
